The Piece:

The motorola SK-77 was the most iconic within  the SK series.  The round radio dials are definitively midcentury modern.  The cabinet was built by Drexel for Motorola, and falls within the Declaration line of furniture designed by Kipp Stewart.

Our Process

This piece is to-be-restored and retro-engineered by Vintage Source.

In short, we will deliver a high-end, visually stunning entertainment hub in a professionally restored midcentury-modern style cabinet. Cabinet Restoration

We start with cabinet repair, and utilize period-correct techniques and products to achieve a better-than-factory lacquer finish. We restore the original grill cloth if possible, or replace if beyond repair.  A more detailed step-by-step restoration schedule can be provided upon request.

Retro-Engineering

We replace the original amp, speakers, and turntable with modern components. But more importantly, we route the controls of the components and capabilities through the original control panel for an authentic tactile experience.  The modern speakers are then tuned and calibrated perfectly with the cabinet for the best possible sound and performance. 

-Installation of modern turntable, 3-way speakers and wi-fi enabled, house calibrated solid-state amplifier.

-Wi-Fi streaming for Spotify Connect, Apple Airplay, Tidal, and other streaming services.

-Optical Input capable of connecting your TV, Xbox Series X, Playstation 5, Blu-Ray Player, modern cd player, and more.

-Bluetooth for quick connection.

There are many challenges when placing modern components in a 60+ year old cabinet designed for 1960s technology.  This means we install specific componentry in the cabinet. However, we offer upgrades that will work within the physical constraints of the cabinet and enhance performance. These upgrades are available at additional cost to the console. We will also talk through additional solutions and capabilities such as Sonos integration and others.

Our services are highly sought after, and lead times are typically 6+ months from order to project completion. 

Shipping & Delivery

Shipping is at the buyer’s expense and professionally coordinated by Vintage Source with trusted carriers who specialize in safe furniture transport (not standard services like UPS or FedEx).

Costs typically range from $600–1200+, based on distance, size, weight, and fuel prices. Delivery usually takes 2–6 weeks after project completion.
